how much does it cost to get a cylinder head on 96 eclipse?

I'm looking at a 1996 eclipse that i want to buy for 1,000 it needs a cylinder head... not sure exactly what that is but does anyone have any idea how about how much (aprox) it should cost to fix it and if i should be able to drive it away if that the only problem? and maybe if you think this is a good deal?

  1. Im not sure its hard to tell but if you go to a mechnic to put it in itll be over a 200 to put it in.... dont drive it with the cylinder out you will have a lot more stuff go wrong if you do....
  2. Run don't walk away from this one! It will be nothing but trouble. Just because the seller says that's what's wrong with it doesn't mean there aren't more problems.
  3. Look for another car. When buying a used car look for one that was driven gently and has the fewest miles on it. Buying one with an existing problem is a really bad idea. This problem sounds like only the beginning of the problems with this car.
  4. If the seller said it needs a new head gasket that is a big job but can be bypassed if the problem is tiny. There is a copper seal that will do fine if you leave it in. Don't use aluminum oxide rad sealer. If the heads overheated it may be badly warped or cracked. That is a bigger job as it requires a new head gasket too. You need to see about a used motor from another eclipse or a match. You can see how many miles are on the power train too.
