Which Cylinder heads do i use on my 327 SB Chevy?

i have a 327 that i want to build up an i have a set of old 305 heads that is the correct pair to use for compression and horsepower gains if used correctly...i just want to know if i should use them on my 327...i plan on porting and polishing them, along with the intake, but will they do well on the 327? the engine will have a big performance cam as well... any answers will be appreciated. thanks

1. For a 327ci I don't think it would give you any help using 305ci heads. They didn't come out with the 305 until the mid 70's and they were restricting them greatly. I would look for 2.02 intake valve heads at least.
2. They'll fit just fine; both the 305 and 327 were small blocks. I'm having trouble finding the volume of the combustion chamber but I seem to recall it was the same; the displacement change came about with the crankshaft throw and rod length. Since you're going to all this work, are you going to CC the chambers? Trust me, you'll get some solid gains off doing that.
3. not my first choice.. most 305's have small valves & small runners.. to make maters worse they are thin cast to save weight .. this limits porting and leads to cracking down the road.. if you want a snapy low rpm motor they will be ok... i would look for some 202's with stainless exhust valves and hardened seats already installed...there are some great after market heads availible very cheap these days the 327 is a large bore medim stroke motor.. this means it loves to rev.. 305 has the same stroke but a small bore, it's a torque motor. while the heads interchange they are designed for differant aplicarions
4. 2.02 fuelly heads! They have a double hump on the front.
