Should I go with a carburetor or fuel injection set up?

Hi, I have a 1990 Chevy Camaro RS, I recently droped a 355/5.7L engine in it and now I'm trying to decide what would give the car the most performance/power, an Edelbrock 600-650cfm carburetor or a Holley fuel injection set up? I currently have a broken carburetor on it but when the guy installed the engine he didn't completely redo everything for it to be carbureted, he just simply put a fuel regulator on the fuel line and put a carburetor on it because it use to be fuel injection.

  1. Your kidding?? Go with Fuel Injection I can't list the advantages here. Theres too many.
  2. Your losing power fuel injection is the way to go. Only downside is the cost. Individual carb stacks will give u one hell of alot of power as a very expensive racing alternative.
  3. I'm assuming that your talking throttle body fuel injection and not multi port.Yea the the injection system is way more reliable
  4. A throttle body set up, after market or factory, will treat ya better in the long run. =^ )
  5. Of course!!!
  6. Depends on what sort of performance you want. A well tuned carb will do very well at the drags since it's only going to run at WOT. Typically speaking, EFI will be better for daily driving and anything that requires part-throttle performance. This assumes that it is properly tuned which is not an easy feat. If you Turbo or Supercharge, Multiport EFI is the only way to go but that's some real money for a complete setup. If street performance is your goal and have limited funds, a good carb will serve you just fine. It's fairly easy to convert an FI fuel system to be used on a carb engine. Just adding a pressure regulator may not do it though. You need to make sure that the fuel pump can handle the extra back pressure and large recirculation. Good Luck!
  7. is the motor stock or does it have performance add ons this makes a big difference in what size and type of carb to use The elelbrock carb is a good all around street carb for a daily driver and mild performance but for a more performance type car I would prefer a holly type carb. a good carb and intake is the cheaper way to go but if you build the motor for more performance then you will one day need to steep up carb size and style if your budget allows it the holly tpi fuel injection is the way to go it can be set for many different performance curves and more reliable and much better fuel economy and much better response than a carb, with the fuel injection you need to be able to work with computers or have some one that does butt the holly web site will help you with as much as possible plus the system looks aw some be glad when they start making it for a big block Chevy either way you go you need to know what you want the car to do what you plan on doing with it sit down and think on what your expations on what you want decent performance daily driver or more of a weekend warrior and driven during the week or all out performance
