How do I adjust fuel injection?
I have a Ford 4 cylinder 2.3 and it makes a knocking sound. Berfore it did that, it started idling irregularly, and from what info I have gathered, it seems to me to be fuel injection related. Are there any special tools needed? I can't afford to take it to the shop and I'm mechanically inclined, just not trained. In simple terms please, and send E-mail if approproate...Thanx!!!

- You can replace the injectors, but the acutal flow is regulated through the computer chip in the car. You need a special computer to change it. Its probably a blocked fuel filter, or a bad injector.
- Your EEC-IV ECM (Engine Control Module) will store codes when there is a malfunction. The basic tool for working on these EFI systems is a code reader. Without a code reader you and anyone else that works on it are just guessing what the problems are. I have seen people spend close to a thousand dollars on parts guessing and not solve the problem. In several cases that I have been involved in the problem was a simple adjustment. Anyone who has not read your codes is wasting your time and probably your money too if they are working on it. Without reading codes, the only thing you can do that won't be a waste of time and money is a simple tuneup. Do a compression check and if that is OK, clean the air filter, change the spark plugs and wires. While you are getting dirty, change the oil and filter, too. Good Luck.
- You can try and replace the engine knock sensor. Use a good quality fuel injection cleaner such as BGk44
- get some octane booster.knocking like that, tells me the octane is low.i think the computer adjusts the idle.
