I have a 1979 Pontiac with a 403 6.6L, How would I go about changing it to Fuel Injection?
Any recommendations, ... i want to race it but have it still drivable on the streets..Should I keep it as is or go with fuel injection and if fuel injection, what would be the price range?

- holley makes a kit called pro-jection, check jegs or summit racing for pricing as they can vary quite a bit. if you plan on keeping the car for a while the fuel injection kit will pay for itself over time in gas savings and as a bonus you will have a much more responsive engine
- Classic industries has parts for you and advice.
- Most people would go with an aftermarket setup like the Pro-jection. That's pretty costly, but it can be done without a lot of customized engineering. You could also consider retrofitting it with Bosch fuel injection off an olds 350. You'd probably have to fool it with bigger injectors, but everything would physically fit. Fuel injected Oldsmobile 350s were used in some Cadillacs in 1979 and 1980. They might have been used in the Seville a year or two before that, I'm not sure.
- major work and expense, now sure if its worth it. Can hit the net for parts.
- my 95 firebird has Fi....wanna trade?
- Pain the the butt....leave it alone.
- Jodi, if it is a Trans Am would you consider trading for a 1997 Eldorado Cadillac with Fi. and 300 hp and 300lb of torque(smokes a 2002 Z28)?That way ya don't have to worry about how to change that old carburated engine over to a fuelie.
- 79 T/A with the Olds 403 is not recommended for fuel injected setup for the low horsepower motor with its low compression. Heres a secret No one will tell you... 403 Olds from the factory was built for a 4-71 or 6-71 blower with a 780 CFM single carb. (if you freshen the motor you can bolt a used one on) Change the Cam w/lifters, Pistons, and you can run 2 400's, up to 2 525 cfm also us a stronger timing chain setup. You can use the Holley injection system but it will always run rich with your low compression 403. Good Luck.
- This a pain to do, but cheaper way of doing it. Get an aftermarket Olds. carb intake manifold. Get a Throttle body from Holley for Throttle body injection. Get a computer, sensors, and wiring harness form a Camaro/Firebird with 350 TBI 1988-1992 or Chevy/GMC fullsize trucks 1987 easiest or 1988-1992, but has more wiring to do. Also would have to get the same style of disturb., cap, rotor, and ign. control module that those Chevy 350s had. All in all, just stick to carb. It's cheaper and it would kept the car orginal some what.
