How does fuel injection work?
I was wondering why there is a point of "best performance" on the fuel injection cars. I understand why is that if you floor the gas pedal on a carburetor car it goes slower - because the carburetor gets flooded. But I seem to get similar effect on my Mazda Protege - if I press the accelerator a bit too far too soon, it just doesn't want to accelerate. Why is that? I have read http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-injection3.htm

- It's a low powered Mazda!
- If your car has over 100,000 miles it may be as simple as the fuel filter located near or at the fuel tank.
- Hello!! I think the gas is shot into the piston with out a carb. Each cyl has it's own sprayer to max the gas to each paston. It's an ez thing.Ask yahoo search line(type in the line:fuel innjection) and you will get all the web sites you can stand on it.I hope this is of some help.God bless
- could be time to get a tune up and the motor timed . run a can of injecter cleaner thru there too one of the gas treatment cleaners to see if that helps clean the injecters then get a tune up.If your timming is off it will not work well either. You may get better gas milage too.
- It is important to know the year and engine and trans of the Mazda Protege. Fuel Injection is control of the Fuel/Air mixture by the computer based on information given to it by sensors. Sensors which affect Fuel control: Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor, Intake Air Temp Sensor, MAP/Baro Sensor, Mass Airflow Sensor -depends on which engine and year as to whar it is equipped with. Simple things like a clogged fuel filter or a dirty air filter can affect acceleration. Bad Plug wires, breaking down electrically under load. You may need to have someone check it out.
- FI works through an array of diffrent sensors that tell the cars computer how much fuel to put into each cylinder and when, the computer on many newer vehicles go through learning cycles, by driving around the car learns how you drive and wether to adjust for economy or for power. So if you want it to perform better you may want to drive diffrently or increase air flow by getting a bigger throttel body and cold air intake, and maybe a programmer chip to make your ecu behave diffrently
- You injector(s) may be clogged.
