What is the best Fuel Injection Cleaner right now?
I was at Kragen/Auto parts looking for a fuel injection cleaner for my 91 miata. I saw a wide variety of them. GUMOUT Fuel injection cleaner, VALVOLINE synpower complete fuel system treatment, DURALUBE, G2P, ETC. Anyone know or suggest or can recommend a good Fuel injection system cleaner.

- I have read that Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus is a good one... I recently added it to my truck. This is the stuff. http://www.chevron.com/products/ourfuels/prodserv/additives/tcp.aspx .
- those off the shelf f/i cleaners dont do a very good job. The best one to get is the one that a shop will charge app. $80 for.its a 3 step process that will really do the job properly.
- i bought the most expensive one Gumout 4 in 1 @ $9. it didnt help my gas mileage at all. thats my truck on my avatar, it gets 12.5 MPG with fuel additive and 12.5 MPG without it. it may help and older vehicle as mine only has 37,000 miles on it, so my engine is probably as efficient as possible.
- None of these. Here is why. Most of them do little of nothing to clean injectors. Lets say you have a fuel tank that holds 20 gallons. and you add i bottle . Let see what that comes out to. You have 2560 oz of gas128oz=1 gal X 20=2560 oz of gas Now you add 1 16oz bottle So 2560 oz of gas Divided by 16=160 or 160 oz of gas for 1 oz of cleaner. That is not gonna do it. It will help keep them clean if you put in 1 bottle every time you gas up but has little affect on injectors that are already dirty. If you suspect the injectors are really the problem then get then professionally clean. This cleaner is put into the injector and is not mixed with the gas. So if thy are cleaned by the garage, 100% of the cleaner is used to clean them and not 1oz for every 160 oz of gas.
- the best thing to do for your peace of mide and for your buck is to go to a cunsumer report on this subject
- personally I like Lucas fuel injector cleaner.
