What is the best way to for colored treated hair?
I am Black and my hair is dyed bright red and I love it! What is the best way to care for it (shampoos, conditioners) so it won't start to look brassy? Realistically all the products that work for other races don't work as well for us, I hsve tried Bioage, Paul Mitchell and Redken products in the past and they left my hair feeling a little crunchy.

- with color care or color defense products (can be purchased at a salon or beauty supply store)
- Here's the thing...red haircolor fades more than any other haircolor (excluding other semipermanent exotic colors). You will need to get touch ups frequently. The best care instructions are: 1. Do not wash your hair everyday, try a couple times a week 2. Shampoo and condition with as cool of water as you can stand 3. Use a shampoo and conditioner designed for color treated hair. 4. Look for a color enhancing shampoo and conditioner that is red. For example Arttec is a product line that comes in a wide array of colors that are designed to add pigment into your hair as you are shampooing to help combat fadage. You can only find this line in a salon or at a beauty supply for licensed cosmetologists (if you know someone who is licensed, get them to pick it up for you). The great thing about Arttec is there are so many to choose from, that you can pick a shampoo and conditioner that is truely custom to your shade of red. Note, that these colored products are not designed to use everyday. you should only use them maybe once a week, or if you notice excessive fading. Some people's skin is sensitive to the pigment in the product though, so if you notice irritation of your scalp, stop using them.
- John Frieda :) Don't wash your hair so much. Deep conditon once a week. Shampoo and condition with John Frieda to lock in hair color. While conditioning leave up to 2-5 minutes then rinse with super cold water for smooth shiny brilliante hair color.
