Please advise on products for my mixed race babies skin and hair?
My baby is 1, she is dual heritage white British and black Jamaican. She's very dark skinned with fairly soft thin hair that is in beautiful ringlets. At the moment I use Johnsons baby top to toe wash on her body and hair and put johnsons baby conditioner. After that I cover her in vaseline and put a leave in conditioner called "soft and precious" that is for afro baby hair, and brush her hair out with an afro comb. Her skin becomes dry the following day. I've tried olive oil and coconut oil on her skin but they don't seem to absorb well enough. My parter told me that we need to be carefull because if we don't treat her skin right now, then when she's older it will be dry and flacky. I want to do the best for her. Am I doing the right thing? Are there any better products? she is allergic to johnson baby oil

- I have twin girls that are mixed race. I used to bath them with E45 emollient as it is un perfumed and then massage them with E45 cream at night and Almond oil in the morning. They have never had a problem with their skin.
- I'm Asian and my husband is African-American. I use Johnson's baby oil in her bath water and also on the cotton wool to blot her skin.. she's got a perfect skin now!
- Try to limit the different types and amount of products you use on her skin for now. If she becomes dry, try all natural products, one at a time though not multiple things at once. My daughter is 18mo. and is mexican and black and I still use the Johnson's head to toe wash for her. Sometimes I put in a small (dime sized) amount of leave in conditioner in her hair. I usually use some type of Johnson's oil or lotion to mosturize her right after her bath. Just remember that her skin is still adjusting and as long as her skin is not cracking/bleeding she should be ok, if the cracking or irritation occurs try some A&D ointment.
- Aqueous is the best moisturiser for anyone, it is pure water based and contains no perfumes or anything, my son has chronic eczema, which means his skin practically falls off and he is bandaged 24 hours a day, but i cant bandage his face and other places, i swear by aqueous, and if it is just for dry flaky skin, id just put some on in the morning and night, it can also be used as a soap substitute and is very cheap to buy from any chemist, Bootsd, superdrug etc for a rather large tub, hope this helps hun xXx
- My daughter is of mixed race and is now three months old. From birth she has suffered from dry skin patches and we also found that the Johnsons "Top to Toe" wash made the dry area's worse. I would stop using the "top to toe" wash and change to the Johnsons "Softwash". We changed and her skin is much better now. The "Softwash" is creamy and not dry and soap like, like the "top to toe" wash. They have a lovely bedtime wash, which has lavender in (purple bottle) and is lovely. My daughters skin is silky soft. After she has bathed I use the Johnsons Bedtime Lotion (also the bedtime purple range) which also includes lavender. It not only smells nice and makes her skin soft, the lavender makes her nice and sleepy so she sleeps better at night... Good Luck - you are doing everything right! I think the Top to Toe wash is just not suitable for babies with dry skin. I think it is too similar to soap and strips the skin on natural moisture.
