Motorbike Helmets quick questionnaire PART 1 Please help! =)?

I'd really appreciate it if you could spend a few minutes answering these questions, it would really help with a project i'm doing at the moment for my a-level. Thanks!! =) What type of helmet do you own? (e.g full face, half face, off-road etc) When did you purchase your helmet? How much did it cost to purchase? What, in your opinion, are the most important factors when purchasing a new helmet? What are your opinions on purchasing second hand helmets? Do you agree with the suggestion that helmets should be replaced after three years, regardless of whether you have experienced a crash? Please give your reasons Do you think that the helmets that are made out of Kevlar and Carbon Fibre are safer than those made out of fibreglass or polycarbonate? Is the weight of a helmet important to you? If you could have a lighter helmet, would you be willing to pay the extra, and would you be worried that the quality and the safety had been compromised? PLEASE SEE PART 2!

  1. full face shoei when i bought my bike $400 Brand, fit, and certifications (snell) fine if they aren't damaged nope, they will last fine if you take care of them. not necessarily, any helmet should be DOT and Snell certified Not if it were certified...lighter IS better
  2. I own a scorpion ful face when I bought my bike...the helmet was $140 SNELL and DOT.... fit comfort....I replace them after 5 years I would never use a second hand helmet ( just because there is no visible damage does not mean it is in good condition) Carbon fiber helmets look cool and are much more expensive but that does not make them any safer.... I prefer lighter helmets as long at it meets SNELL specs I would not worry about it unless it fit and was comfortable I would not buy it in the first place but I would pay 50-60 bucks more
  3. 1. Bell half helmet, KBC full face for street ,Cirrus moto helmet for off road 2. half helmet 1 yr ago ,full face street helmet 6 months ago,off road helmet 5yrs ago 3.half helmet $60.00,full face street helmet $150.00 ,offroad helmet $90.00 4. good comfortable snug fit ,does it have vents that can be opened or closed, and then graphics's 5.if it is a street helmet yes it would be wise to replace it every three years or sooner in the event that it's dropped, if it's dropped replace it as soon as possible 6.structurally they are stronger then fiberglass and polycarbonate and can be lighter then these as well and just as safe 7.weight doesn't concern me as much as the fit of the helmet does
  4. 1. Bell Shorty 2. About a year ago 3. Somewhere around the $50-70 range 4. Comfort and safety 5. Don't do it. You never know where that thing has been or what it has been through. 6. Absolutely. Just like anything else, a helmet (and the life saving material inside it) has a shelf life. 7. No opinion. 8. Just as long as I can comfortably wear it on my head for as long as I need to, weight isn't really an issue.
  5. What type of helmet do you own? (e.g full face, half face, off-road etc) Full, 3/4, half, and beanie. When did you purchase your helmet? Various times How much did it cost to purchase? Don't remember What, in your opinion, are the most important factors when purchasing a new helmet? Fit. What are your opinions on purchasing second hand helmets? If the finish hasn't been marred, meaning it hasn't been dropped, it would be OK. Do you agree with the suggestion that helmets should be replaced after three years, regardless of whether you have experienced a crash? Please give your reasons NO, that's just like the 3,000 mile oil change. Just puts money in the manufacturer's pocket. Do you think that the helmets that are made out of Kevlar and Carbon Fibre are safer than those made out of fibreglass or polycarbonate? No. Is the weight of a helmet important to you? Yes If you could have a lighter helmet, would you be willing to pay the extra, and would you be worried that the quality and the safety had been compromised? Yes/no
  6. FULL FACE HJC Carbonfibre HQ-1 Hein Gericke £250.00 weight, feild of view, visor options, noise reduction, comfort, Style. Dont Buy Second Hand NEVER!!!!!!! Replace after 3 years or before if showing damage Polycarb or thermo plastic change after 18 months... SERIOUSLY!! Carbon fibre or Kevlar or Fibreglass, though Fibreglass is very heavy. MATT or woven cloth... not chopped fibre; Poly carbonate no good Injected moulded Kevlar composite with Carbon fibre good compromise Duwe to neck injury weight VERY important
  7. full face KBC wizard about 4 months ago $260 it fits + DOT/Snell NO yes, sun, wear and tare, constant shaking no i like light, but i cant afford much extra cash to be spent
  8. Full face – Arai TrailX 2002 £300 Fit, if it doesn't fit it is no good Never, ever No, if it's treated properly it will last longer than that, it used to be the case that you had to keep them out of direct sunlight because it made the polycarbonate brittle. Not necessarily, it's the protective cushioning inside which prevents your head sloshing about in the helmet that does more. Not that important
  9. > What type of helmet do you own? (e.g full face, half face, off-road etc) Full face, Arai with real DOT sticker and Snell rating. > How much did it cost to purchase? $85 (it was on sale because it has Suzuki graphics and a Yamaha dealer was selling it). > What, in your opinion, are the most important factors when purchasing a new helmet? It must be full face, fit, have a real DOT sticker, and a Snell rating. > What are your opinions on purchasing second hand helmets? I'd rather buy a new one, but I would certainly buy a used one that hadn't been wrecked. > Do you agree with the suggestion that helmets should be replaced after three years No. The thing about the fiberglass becoming brittle is an urban legend. Replace the helmet when the cushion lining starts disintegrating, or the styrofoam lining either gets compacted or turns rock hard or starts disintegrating (depends partly on your climate). > Do you think that the helmets that are made out of Kevlar and Carbon Fibre are safer than those made out of fibreglass or polycarbonate? No. I need a helmet to protect me when I fall on the ground. No one is shooting at my head. > Is the weight of a helmet important to you? No. My neck is mighty strong. > If you could have a lighter helmet, would you be willing to pay the extra, No.

  12. Full face HJC July 2007 190 dollars Fit, SNELL and DOT approved, and style No No No No. If it is properly cared for and has replaceable lining its life can be extended for a few years. After 6 or so or a wreck, no way. Yes I do. Yes. I have paid for lighter helmets before. Up to 700 dollars.
