I wonder what kind of liquid (detergent) manufactures are using to clean cylinder heads? I've got ultrasonic sistem, but I can't find the right liquid(detergent). My cleaner cleans perfectly outside of the cylinder head. Problem is, that my curent liquid, cleans only exhaust canals. Inlet canals are not so good cleaned. I think that exhaust canals are more problematic, but in my case is quite the oposite. If anyone knows for liquid that would solve my problem, please let me know. how to clean alloy cylinder heads ? in the process of dismantling my car's engine, so as to change the piston rings and grind the valves etc, how do i clean all the hardened black crud from the inside of the cylinder head and the barrels? can't use anything too abrasive on alloy. what has worked for you? ps i don't mean the sludgy stuff - this washes off with a de-greasant, but the hard, laquer-like deposits. pps anyone familiar with rebuilding the 602cc flat-twin aircooled motor from the citroën 2CV?? any practical tips welcome.
Please help with cylinder heads on a 1970 Type I Volkswagen Beetle engine? I have recently rebuilt a 1970 Type I Volkswagen Beetle engine. There are no head gaskets on these engines; a recess in the head slips over a protruding sleeve on the top of the cylinder. When I was finished torquing the heads down I looked to see if the head was butted up against the cylinders, and I noticed that there was about a 3/16" gap between the head and cylinders. Should this gap be there (it is uniform and on both heads), or should the head be butted up against the cylinders?
Cylinder heads and Exhaust valves? What are the benefits of changing new cylinder heads and exhaust valves in the Main engine of the vessel? I am now studying a vessel which has a problem with their main engine. Frequent repair of cylinder heads (they usually weld it) and exhaust valves are the ones they do. I need to further give the benefits to be submitted to the vessel's management for them to buy new cylinder heads and exhaust valves as a replacement for the welded ones.
Can you recommend good website for 4.3L cylinder heads? Anyone know of a good website where I might find a set of heads for a 1993 S-10 with a 4.3L engine other than ebay? Is it safe to keep cylinder head temperature from dropping too fast in a rapid descent by leaning the mixture? After letting out skydivers in a Cessna 182 from 10,000 feet, I try not to let the engine cool quicker than 1 degree fahrenheit every 3 seconds (as measured by cylinder head temperature on the coldest cylinder.) Besides descending with power (15-18 inches on manifold pressure) I like to lean the mixture somewhat to keep more heat in the engine as a further measure against shock cooling. Any ideas how much leaning is okay and how much is too much? Thanks!
How important is it to have your cylinder head resurfaced when replacing your head gasket? I have a 1996 j-body sedan with a 2.2 engine. I have an external leak in my head gasket (leaking coolant), that apparently is not affecting compression and there is no coolant/oil mix. I narrowed down my choices to 2 main options for fixing it: 1. Have it fixed locally for about $1000 including gasket kit, resurfacing, labour and tax. 2. Have it fixed by a friend who is a Toyota tech for about $500 (parts/labour/tax). But I would need to drive the car for about 300 hwy kms, and would likely not be able to have the cylinder head resurfaced. Any thoughts? Would also appreciate suggestions of other associated repairs/maintenance that I should consider (timing chain and tensioner were done 40,000km ago, coolant changed 10,000 km ago). Thanks! Thanks for the answers so far.. a few more points to clarify: Car has never overheated, and is still running perfectly (just leaking coolant). The car also has 260,000 km, and the 2.2 engine is prone to head gasket problems. As for cost: $228 (Canadian, tax incl) is parts cost for either option. I don't have necessary tools, so if my friend does it, extra cost would be for the cost he's saving me vs having it done at the mechanic.

NASCAR Cylinder Heads for Toyota? I haven't followed NASCAR since the early 90's and I know at that time the cylinder heads and blocks had to be available over the counter to the General public. I work at a Toyota Dealership at the Parts Counter and cannot find any info on the heads Toyota uses. In fact I can't find any info at all on Toyota's NASCAR V8. If you go to Ford Motorsports you can find and buy the Heads and Block used for NASCAR, Same with GM and MOPAR. How and why is Toyota getting away without selling these to the general public? Has Nascar changed that rule? No longer a NASCAR fan, Consider NASCAR the WWF of Motorsports.
Need to find Cylinder Heads for 02 Mustang GT. or engine.? Live in Los Angeles, California. I have a 2002 Mustang in which the timing chain broke messing up my cylinder heads. Need to find a shop that sells those heads or engine. don't have to be new just work. Cheap Ford puts plastic to support a metallic chain. With my high RPM driving the chain ate up the plastics chain hit the timing tensioners and broke. Appreciate any help. Good websites will help too.
